Inhalable airborne desert DUST – Crosstalk of Epigenetics and oxidative stress upon exposure to particulate matters in lung cells.

The DUST-STORM initiative aims to comprehensively investigate and characterize the physical, chemical, and biological properties of inhalable airborne particles derived from the Jordanian dust storms. In this project, the potential cytotoxic and genotoxic effects will be evaluated and linked to the other physical and chemical findings. Under the genotoxic effects, the study of epigenetics is of great importance, as inhalable particles might alter the gene expression by chemically modifying nucleotides without changing their core identities. This might also be associated with pathways that induce oxidative stress damage in pulmonary cells.
