Inhalable airborne desert DUST – Primary and Secondary Mechanisms of Genotoxicity, and Mutagenicity in Lung Cell Model Systems.

As a part of aeroHEALTH project, DUST-STORM initiative aims at gaining a comprehensive characterization of physicochemical properties of inhalable dust storm fractions driving health-related toxicological effects. Investigations on the physical and chemical characteristics of dust storms particles from Jordan as well as their mechanisms of toxicity are being conducted. Air Liquid Interface (ALI) cell culture models of pulmonary barrier are being used to assess the genotoxic and mutagenic potential of dust storm particles including both primary and secondary inflammation-driven mechanisms of action.
